Real Wedding Feature: Heather & Kevin
12 Jan, 2015
We met Heather and Kevin, along with Heather’s wonderful parents, back in October 2013. The entire group’s excitement was energizing and we quickly realized they had a firm understanding of what they wanted to accomplish for their wedding. We knew from the moment they booked their date that these two were going to be amazing to work with and were going to plan a truly memorable special day. To honor this now newlywed couple, we wanted to share some information about them in this installment of Lomas Santa Fe Country Club’s Real Wedding Features.
How They Met
Heather and Kevin are both USD alumni who met casually during events on campus, but never truly crossed paths until August 2008 when Heather became chairperson for that year’s Homecoming. Due to a calendar blunder, Kevin showed up to a planning meeting that Heather was running as the Alumni Board representative. That evening, Kevin walked Heather to her car, where they talked for hours on the rooftop parking lot. That weekend, they attended mass and dinner together, and had their first date at Lorna’s Italian Kitchen. Their adventures in faith, cooking, eating, wine tasting, and traveling began from that moment and will continue to bond them together during their marriage.
The Wedding Details
The ceremony took place at the Founders Chapel on the USD campus. Guests were afterwards invited to Lomas Santa Fe Country Club for the reception. The wine-themed wedding, orchestrated with the help of coordinator Whitney Matta, was dripping in a color palate featuring shades of silver, coral, and honey. The tablescape was created using Dove Shantung linens, chiavari chairs, dark coral napkins, and a menu designed by a childhood friend. In lieu of numbers, the couple opted to name each table after a favorite wine. Each place setting was gifted with personalized miniature bottles of either peach balsamic vinegar or olive oil hand-crafted by the wonderful folks at We Olive. On the tables, displayed in Mercury Glass, were impressive arrangements of coral roses, white hydrangeas, and green hanging amoranthus.
Dinner featured numerous action stations including a “Wok This Way” station where guests could enjoy made-to-order lo mein or fried rice in Chinese take-out containers. There was also a Mashtini station featuring braised beef short ribs. A beautiful cake flanked by a variety of gourmet cupcakes were artfully displayed by Sweet Cheeks Baking Company to round out the gourmet nature of the event.
Overall, this wedding ranks high in our books due to the fabulous couple, beautiful design, great food, wine, and lots of love – the perfect recipe for an amazing wedding and marriage. Thank you Heather & Kevin for letting us be a part of your journey.
