Five Ways to Dress Up Your Wedding Reception
30 May, 2013
Whether your dream reception features an airy room with vaulted ceilings, an outdoor garden with towering trees and seasonal flowers, or a spacious ballroom sparkling with chandeliers, there’s always the possibility of adding extra touches that can really make the space your own!
Uplighting
Uplights are a great addition to any reception space. They add mood lighting, highlight focal points, and can even be ordered to match your colors. If you’re hosting an outdoor reception and desire lighting that’s not too bright or distracting—or if there’s a beautiful tree or plant you’d like to highlight—uplights can be a great option.
Ceiling Treatments
Ceiling treatments can really transform a room, and they also come in a wide variety of options—including draping, lanterns, and twinkle lights. Research different vendors, and always ask to see photos of completed rooms. It’s been our experience that the most dramatic transformations are made with draping.
Wall Draping
If you’d like to add some pizzazz to your venue’s neutral palate, look no further than wall draping. Wall draping can be done in many different colors, textures, and layers, and can transform a large, open room into a cozily intimate space. As a bonus, it can also complement you color scheme and make guests feel as if they’ve ventured into a completely different space.
Plants
If your event is indoors but you want to bring the “outdoors in,” live plants are a simple, relatively inexpensive way to accomplish just that. Consider potted trees, manicured bushes, or small potted plants as centerpieces; you may even be able to rent them. Decorating with live plants will bestow your indoor wedding with a garden feel.
Gobos
If you’ve never heard of a gobo, I highly suggest looking them up. Gobos are templates projected onto a surface via a light source, and are a fun way to add a unique touch to your reception. Gobos can be designed with your names, monograms, wedding date, and even come in shapes like hearts and rings. They can be a great addition your guests will never forget!
