Wedding Color Trends

Jamie McGregor

In 2012, Pantone declared Tangerine Tango Color of the Year, and the wedding industry took note. This fun, bright color is showing up in many wedding color combinations—either subtlety paired with greens and whites, or else in a livelier match to accompany hot pinks or yellow. But while orange might be the new It-color, there are plenty of other colorful trends to consider!

Pink

This youthful color is making a comeback in both blush tones and more vibrant shades. Combined with metallic and neutral tones, blush pink takes a more elegant and sophisticated stance.

Green

Garnering a lot of attention, mint goes great when paired with corals and yellow. For a more romantic and feminine combination, try mint with blush pink!

Purple

Plum purple is still popular. Combined with saturated hues like forest green, dark teal, or burgundy, plum becomes the top choice for more earthy and organic fall color combinations. Additionally, it can be paired with brighter shades such as turquoise.

Metallic and White

The new neutrals, metallic and white can be mixed with other neutrals such as creams or grays for a mesmerizing base with a hint of color—try combining white, gray, and metallic with just a pop of hot pink for playfulness. Or, add a touch of mint to your neutral base and keep the palette soft and feminine.

Neon

Neon made a dramatic statement in fashion this summer, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it pops up in weddings. Little touches of neon, be it one color or multiple shades, makes a fun statement.

Patterns

While technically not a color, patterns have become so popular they’re being treated as one. For sophisticated detail, layer one or several in linens, dresses, or china. Chevron and ombré are making a big impact this summer, but expect to see more patterns as well, such as iron gate, honeycomb, watercolor, and graphic flowers. Anything adding texture to your color palette is a win!
