The BoHo Bride Style

Allison Doyle

The BoHo Bride

First, a definition: “BoHo” stands for Bohemian Chic, and exemplifies a style of dress inspired by the lifestyle of the 1960s and 1970s hippies. BoHo style can mean long flowing dresses, peasant blouses, and embroidered or dangling accessories.

What you might not know about BoHo is that it was one of the biggest trends in 2015 weddings. In 2015, informal and unconventional weddings trended, and BoHo Chic bridal style was an incredibly popular choice for dresses and atmosphere. A growing wedding trend involves creating a personal and intimate atmosphere during both the ceremony and reception, and this relaxed style feeds into that. Many couples mention wanting a feeling of “home” – as if friends and family were just gathering together for a small ceremony – even if the trappings of that ceremony more lean towards the traditional wedding accoutrements.

Décor for the BoHo Bride

For décor, BoHo style could swap in long wooden tables instead of round ones, and wooden chairs or benches instead of Chiavari seats. Light installations could be more artsy, instead of purely functional.

If you still want to stay a bit more upscale in your atmosphere, you can hint at your more BoHo style by replacing anything metal with copper, or add some crystal and lace into your wedding accents. Just remember that moderation is key!

Think of it this way: mid-century + industrial + nature

Etsy over Brides.com

You can find a lot of DIY inspiration or accents on sites like Etsy, or with local designers and craftspeople. Pinterest of course is always an inspiration treasure trove, and you can search for “BoHo bridal” or “rustic inspiration” or “Bohemian wedding décor.” Remember, tie your entire BoHo theme together from the invitations to the ceremony to the reception. Go for silver fonts, watercolor designs, and blush and pink colors if you’re melding a more traditional look with this fun, popular new bridal style.
