How to Get All of Your Guests to RSVP
21 Jan, 2019
Why are RSVPs so hard to get in a timely manner?
You've probably been the culprit of a late RSVP, at one point or another. The RSVP card gets lost in a stack of mail on your counter, or you plan on checking the date at your office and totally forget about it. Maybe you fill out the card and seal the envelope, but never drop it into a mailbox. Here's how to ensure you get the maximum number of RSVPs on time.
1. Make RSVPs easy!
Technology can make the RSVP process so much easier on you! Evites or wedding websites are super easy ways to get a head count, and they often have room for more questions (meal choices? song requests? you name it!). Mailed RSVPs still work, but they do require a bit of extra work from your guests, which can make the whole process more difficult. As a bonus, you can save money on printing and stamps if you use an online service!
2. Give yourself some wigge room
Set your RSVP deadline earlier than you think is necessary. If the venue needs your final headcount 14 days ahead of your wedding, DO NOT set the RSVP date for 15 days prior. Give yourself a week or two in addition as a buffer for those who do not respond. You’ll feel so much better with extra time to figure out that exact headcount. By giving yourself room, you have time to call the people who have not replied. No need for last-minute late-night texting and calling!
3. Accept the inevitable
However you go about asking for RSVPs, there will always be a few guests who do not respond in a timely manner. Some of them will just forget, while others may be waiting to see if other plans follow through. If your RSVP date comes and goes with no responses, reach out to these guests. They may just need a simple reminder or a friendly shout out. Be direct. If they can't give you a verbal confirmation, give them one final date to respond by. If they miss this second date, it’s fair to consider that a declined invitation.
